Okta Report Reveals Increase in Adoption of Security Tools

Today, Okta, a leading IAM vendor, released a report detailing app use and security trends among its broad user base. The report found that zero trust security policies have become increasingly popular, with usage among Okta customers increasing from 10% two years ago to 22% today.

Technology companies are leading the way in adoption, with 34% deploying at least one system in a zero trust configuration and 7% deploying two. The finance and banking sector is also a popular area for zero trust deployments, with 26% using at least one zero trust configuration, and 5% with two.

The report also found that security tools, from mobile device management (MDM) to training apps, are becoming increasingly popular. VPN and firewall tools saw the highest growth in customers, with 31% year-over-year growth, while endpoint management and security applications saw 25%. Kandji, an MDM app for iOS and Mac, was the individual app with the fastest growth among Okta users in the past year, gaining 172% more customers.

Security training tools such as KnowBe4 and Proofpoint Security Awareness Training have also seen a 436% increase in customers over the past four years. Infrastructure monitoring and server access tools have also seen growth, with 66% and 75% growth in customers over the last two years respectively.
